Top Tips for Attending Online or Telephone Medical Appointments

  • Find somewhere quiet and private.
  • Check that you have a good internet signal. Test any links and familiarise yourself with the platform or site you are using. Ask a family member or friend for help if you have someone available.
  • Try and limit distractions.
  • Turn on the light but don’t have the light directly behind you.
  • Have any GP or medical letters with you along with a record of any medication you might be on. If you are at home have the medication to hand.
  • Write down in advance any symptoms you are experiencing, what you are concerned about and any questions you want answering.
  • Ask for an interpreter if you need one.
  • Write down the doctors name, what they recommend next and any dates or times of future appointments.
  • Repeat the agreed actions at the end of the call so that both you and the clinician agree the way forward.
