Phase two of the vaccination programme is underway

Phase two of the vaccination programme has begun which involves offering vaccination appointments to all adults aged 18 to 49 who have not yet been offered the vaccine.

The NHS has confirmed that people over the age of 45 can now book an appointment for their first dose of the COVID vaccine via the National Booking Service at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or by dialling 119, which is a free call seven days a week, between 7am and 11pm.

Anyone aged 18 to 44 will be invited to book an appointment by the NHS when it is their turn.

This phase of the vaccination programme will mainly be delivered by the large scale vaccination sites, including The Etihad Campus, and community pharmacy services at local vaccination sites. If a GP practice is participating in this phase they will be listed as an available option when booking. There is no need to contact the GP practice to check.

Dr Cath Briggs, Chair of Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group, said:

“General Practice and primary care teams have made a significant contribution to delivering the COVID vaccination programme whilst also caring for patients’ routine, urgent and COVID care.

“GPs are now focussed on delivering vital second doses, which will increase protection against the virus for our most vulnerable residents, whilst continuing to vaccinate anyone in priority groups 1-9, who has not yet had the vaccine.

“It’s really important that when people get their invitation from the National Booking Service, they take up the offer of having the vaccine, to protect themselves and their friends and family.”

Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group has a helpline for anyone who has questions about the vaccine or the vaccination programme. The team can be contacted on 0161 426 9910 or by email at stoccg.Pxenquiries@nhs.net.
