What does the latest government Covid-19 announcement mean for Stockport?

The government has announced that enhanced support has been made available to Greater Manchester, including Stockport, in light of rising case rates.

The Government has announced that enhanced support has been made available to Greater Manchester, including Stockport, in light of rising case rates (predominantly the more transmissible Delta variant).

Contrary to some news reports, there are no restrictions on travel in or out of Greater Manchester. There are no local lockdowns, and travel advice is government advice only.

We have seen a significant increase in coronavirus cases in Stockport recently. The council is already working with health partners and others to boost testing and vaccination and to support self-isolation.

We can all help to stop the spread by taking sensible public health precautions to help curb the transmission of Covid, such as social distancing (2m), wearing face coverings (unless exempt), washing/sanitising hands regularly and keeping enclosed areas well ventilated, in line with the advice and guidance we have all been following throughout the pandemic.

As well as getting your vaccination when you are eligible, regular testing (even if you are vaccinated) will also help to stop the spread in our borough. Testing kits are free and readily available. Find out where to get your tests here.

If your test is positive or you have coronavirus symptoms, you will need to self-isolate and take a PCR test, which can be booked by calling 119 or via the GOV.UK website. It is a legal requirement to self-isolate if you are told to by the NHS test and trace service.
