Vanguard social movement funding

STOCKPORT SELECTED TO LEAD THE WAY ON SOCIAL MOVEMENT

Stockport residents are set to benefit from a funding boost that will support community projects across the borough.

NHS England announced today that the ‘Stockport Together’ programme has been chosen as one of six national ‘vanguards’ to lead the way on social movement in health and social care.

Working initially with 6 new care model vanguards across England, this programme will develop, test and spread effective ways of mobilising people in social movements that improve health and care outcomes and experiences for local communities.

It builds on the work which already supports social movements across the region in reaching out to lonely, housebound and disengaged people through community groups and improved understanding.

It will receive £65k to support projects such as; Offerton’s crowd funding ‘Detroit Soup’, Marple’s postcard ‘have a cuppa’ project led to the One Good Turn Timebank and Cheadle’s cross-generational ‘Tec Buddy’ scheme.

Dr Viren Mehta, CCG Clinical Director and GP in Cheadle, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity. Already a lot of good work is happening in Stockport to support communities to come together to take control of the own health and care. This funding will help to innovate further and share good practice across the whole of the country to improve the quality of life for all communities.”

Cllr Keith Holloway, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Supporting Adults, said: “I am delighted with the Vanguard funding announcement which endorses the strength of the joint working between all partners here in Stockport. This funding brings important additional resources into Stockport which will allow us to support vital community groups across the borough, all of whom are driving social movements that improve health and care in their communities.”

Stockport Together is a partnership between NHS Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group, Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, NHS Stockport Foundation Trust, NHS Pennine Care Foundation Trust, Viaduct Health (GP Federation). Leaders from these organisations have committed to make the partnership work a top priority and are working together to develop an overall plan for the borough to integrate and transform health and social care services.
