12th October 2017
From the evening of 10th October to 31st October Stockport Town Hall will be glowing pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
It is a worldwide, annual campaign involving thousands of organisations, to highlight the importance of breast cancer awareness, education and research.
Dr Vicci Owen–Smith Clinical Director for Public Health at NHS Stockport CCG and Stockport Council’s Deputy Director of Public Health said “Around 250 women each year in Stockport are diagnosed with breast cancer.
“We know that 3 in 4 Stockport women eligible for breast screening attend their breast screening appointment and many women check their breasts regularly because they know how important it is to catch cancer early.
“If caught early, in most cases, breast cancer can be treated successfully. I therefore urge all women to get in the habit of checking your breasts regularly and attend your screening appointment when invited.
“Don’t delay seeking advice from your GP if you notice any changes in your breasts.”
Councillor Tom McGee, Stockport Council’s Cabinet member for Health, said:“We are pleased to help raise the profile of Breast Cancer Awareness by illuminating the town hall pink.
“It’s great to see so many local Stockport organisations and residents taking part and raising awareness and funds for breast cancer awareness and research.”
