Stockport’s GPs top the public poll

Stockport’s GP surgeries have shown themselves to be the People’s Choice when it comes to being the best in the country.

The borough has had a staggering six of its practices nominated, by the general public, for the prestigious award of Surgery of the Year.

With just 82 practices out of the thousands of surgeries across the UK up for the national award, Stockport’s six nominations sees us riding high above all other boroughs in the country.

The award is part of the highly respected, annual General Practice Awards. It’s the first year there has been a People Choice category, brought in to add to the NHS’ 70th birthday celebrations.

The annual event is to celebrate the hard work, innovation, and dedication taking place in general practice showcasing the very best projects, teams, and leaders.

But unlike the other awards, the People’s Choice award is the only one to offer the public the chance to give their thanks and show appreciation for their local healthcare team.

The six Stockport practices nominated are:

• Adswood Road Surgery CHOICE3
• Alvanley Family Practice CHOICE4
• Beech House Medical Practice CHOICE10
• Bracondale Medical Centre CHOICE12
• The Village Surgery CHOICE77
• Woodley Village Surgery CHOICE82

Stockport GP Dr Ranjit Gill, who is the Chief Clinical Officer for Stockport NHS CCG, said “We should be rightly proud of this achievement by our surgeries but I’m not at all surprised.

“Practices in Stockport continually strive to offer the best possible service to their patients and that hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. Our practices regularly get great feedback from their patients.

“If your practice has been nominated then please vote for them and let the rest of the country see the work being done here in Stockport.”

Following the nominations, voting has now opened for the public to choose which practice will be crowned Surgery of the Year.

Voting closes on 10th August, with the short list announced on 3rd September.
