A Stockport GP has been honoured at the Greater Manchester Primary Care Awards – and immediately handed over all the acclaim to the staff and volunteers at her practice.
Dr Jaweeda Idoo, from Alvanley Family Practice, won a Special Recognition award for Community Cohesion and Social Prescribing initiative at the ceremony in Manchester on 11th December.
She runs a thriving practice in Woodley with an outstanding Practice Health Champions group which has helped make huge inroads into tackling social isolation and fostering an amazing community spirit.
In making the special award, the judges described Jaweeda as a caring and creative GP who positioned her practice and her community at the heart of care in Stockport.
Talking about her outstanding achievements, they added “Jaweeda’s achievements are tenfold, but most notably are her team’s drive to improve community cohesion and embed social prescribing initiatives like her practice allotment, within her care.
“She is an inclusive and diverse leader who says she could not operate without her nursing and care staff, and has been very supportive across both her locality and her federation in developing future nurses.”
But after receiving the award, Jaweeda said “This award isn’t just for me – it’s for everyone I work with, all our volunteers, clinicians and the wonderful administrative and clerical teams who make Alvanley Family Practice and Viaduct Care work so incredibly well.
“They are all an extension of my family so this award is a prize for all of them”
The awards are run by the GP Excellence Programme which is a partnership between the Royal College of General Practitioners and Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership.
The programme aims to support and improve general practice to enable care for local people by thriving general practices.
