Stockport GP buzzing with energy for charity

Stockport GP and long distance runner Adam Firth is ‘buzzing’ about his upcoming charity challenge.

Adam’s 10 hour marathon Bee Run will see him, on Friday 24th August, visit the 101 giant bees which have been installed across Manchester for summer.

The ‘Bee in the City Trail’ has been designed to allow people to explore the city over the summer months but Dr Firth took one look at the map and realised that a 50 mile run would allow him to visit them all in a single day!

Adam will start off with Flora in Heaton Park and finish with AuBee at Manchester Piccadilly having zigzagged his way through all the sites including Old Trafford, MediaCity, Manchester Airport, Wythenshawe, Didsbury, Levenshulme and the Ethiad, logging a selfie with every bee.

Having started running 5 years ago to get fit, Adam now regularly runs marathons and longer events and is passionate about sharing the physical and mental health benefits of regular exercise.

Adam, a GP at Bracondale Medical Centre, is using his challenge to fundraise for 2 fantastic charities – ‘We love Mcr’ which works to celebrate unity and diversity across the region and the mental health charity ‘Mind’.

Donations can be made at www.virginmoneygiving.com/BeeRun and his progress on the day can be tracked at http://www.racedrone.net/event/bee-run.

If you’re inspired by Adam’s adventure and want to meet up with him and other running fans whilst helping the wider Stockport community then take a look at GoodGym Stockport which launches from Life Leisure Grand Central at 6.30pm on Tuesday 28th August.

Dr Firth explains “GoodGym is a great organisation which wants to help people develop friendship and community by facilitating all-inclusive group runs to and from local social action projects”.
