Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group Stockport celebrates Black History Month

As well as being Stockport Equality Month, October is Black History Month across the country, there are several events going on in Stockport to celebrate our diverse communities and their history here in the borough.

Stockport Race Equality Partnership is hosting an all-month exhibition, which you can see at Central Library, One Stockport Hub, the Heatons Library and Marple Library. The exhibition is a celebration of local African and Caribbean people, their stories and experiences living in Stockport. Drop in to explore other cultures and find out about an alternative history of our borough.

In addition, Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery is hosting the unveiling of a special portrait commissioned to celebrate Black History Month. Local acclaimed artist Peter Davis has created a portrait of Stockport businesswoman Claire Worthington, to address the lack of people of colour currently represented in the permanent collections on display at the gallery. Claire Worthington is the owner of the Village Web Company and helps to run local charity SPACE Stockport, which helps children with ADHD.

See the painting as it’s unveiled at Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery on Saturday 9th October, between 2pm and 4pm.
