Stockport CCG rated “Good” in national assessment

NHS Stockport CCG has retained its overall rating of “Good” following the annual assessment of its performance by NHS England.

Despite a challenging year, the CCG’s continued hard work enabled it to maintain its good rating in the two main categories in which its performance is measured – providing better care and better health for the people of Stockport.

The national evaluation placed Stockport in the top percentage of the country for 10 different elements of its performance including its one year survival rates from cancer, the diagnosis rate for dementia, patient experience of GP services and the level of high quality care within primary care.

Clinical Chair of NHS Stockport CCG Dr Cath Briggs, who is also a local GP, said “We’re delighted that the hard work of every health worker in the borough, in providing patients with high quality care, is paying dividends.

“To maintain our rating and also produce the highest level of performance in 10 separate areas of health care is an amazing achievement.

“Our aim, with continued improvement, is to provide this high level of performance for all of our patients regardless of what their health issue is.”

As with all other CCGs, there were areas that were noted as needing improvement and in Stockport these included the level of choice in maternity services, injuries from falls in people aged 65 and over and the appropriate prescribing of antibiotics.

Plans are already in place to ensure that the necessary progress is made in the highlighted areas.

NHS England has a legal duty to carry out an assessment of every CCG in England each year and rate it as ‘Outstanding’, ‘Good’, Requires Improvement’ or ‘Inadequate’.

Each CCG’s performance is measured against key performance objectives and priorities based on four areas: Better Health; Better Care; Sustainability; Leadership.
