It’s big, it’s back and it’s coming to a town near you!
Yes folks – Stoptober’s back for its eight year and it’s aim is to get you to kick your old smoking habit into touch and give your lungs a bit of breathing space.
The latest national study shows that smokers in England are currently giving up at the fastest rate in a decade with nearly 200 quitting every hour.
Not smoking is now the norm in England but despite smoking rates being at a record low, millions still smoke and in Stockport the number is around 37,000.
This year’s campaign, beginning on 1st October, will encourage people to “split up” with smoking by urging them to work out how bad their relationship is with smoking is and then provide them with the support and information they need to quit successfully.
Stoptober has supported over 1.9 million people on their quit journey to date – if a smoker can make it to 28 days smokefree, they are five times more likely to quit for good.
Stoptober’s free quitting support includes the Stoptober app, Facebook messenger bot, daily emails, a Personal Quit Plan and Stoptober online communities.
Additionally, GPs and pharmacists can also give advice and tips to help smokers quit, including what stop smoking aids might be right for them.
