Six New Venues to Visit for Vaccination

Stockport students are being encouraged to get their Covid jab when they start college next week.

Mobile vaccination vans will be at Aquinas College, Marple Sixth Form College and St Peter’s Square in the town centre, on Thursday, 9 September. Then Cheadle Sixth Form College, Stockport College and Adswood Community Centre on Friday, 10 September. The vans will be open from 10am to 3pm.

The walk-in locations, which are convenient for students, will offer the Pfizer jab for 16-17 year olds first and those aged 18-40. Adults over 40 can receive Oxford Astra Zeneca or Pfizer, subject to eligibility. Second doses can be given if eight weeks (56 days) have passed since receiving the first dose.

The St Peter’s Square pop up, with its proximity to cafes, businesses and shops, hopes to attract the area’s regulars as well as passers-by. No bookings are necessary.

Dr Cath Munro, Chair of NHS Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “As we continue to build a balance between protecting public health and living with Covid-19, it’s important that students and adults go for their first vaccination or complete the course with their second one.

“This week’s pop up venues in college grounds, and in a popular town centre location, have been planned so they’re easy to get to for students, and staff working in education, surrounding businesses and people passing by. There are three pop ups on both Thursday and Friday, so we are trying to make the vaccination process as handy as possible.”

Councillor Jude Wells, Cabinet Member for Adult Care and Health at Stockport Council, said: “This week’s vaccination venues are open to everyone aged 16 or over and eligible, whether it’s a first-time dose, or someone finishing their vaccination course with their second jab.

“These locations are great because they are convenient for students across Stockport, so we really do hope to see more of our young people wanting to better protect their own health as well as their friends and family.”
