Stockport’s vaccination programme has reached the Government target of 85% of the local population vaccinated, but health chiefs warn there are still more jabs to do as 16 to 17 year olds are invited to get vaccinated.
As part of a programme to get as many people vaccinated as possible, two more pop up clinics offering walk-in slots, with no booking required, are being held this week.
On Thursday, 19 August, a pop up will be held at Trinity Methodist Church, Trinity Gardens, 351 Bramhall Lane, SK3 8TP, between 10am – 4pm. On Friday, 20 August, the pop up returns to Brinnington Park Leisure Complex, Northumberland Road, SK5 8LS, from 10am – 4pm.
Both pop ups offer first and second doses of Pfizer or Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccinations. The Pfizer vaccination is given to 16-17 year olds. Second doses can be given if eight weeks (56 days) have passed since receiving the first dose.
Stockport also has a number of community pharmacies offering walk in and bookable appointments. To view the full range of options in Stockport, and how to book, visit www.stockportccg.nhs.uk/news/covid-19-vaccination-options/
Dr Cath Munro, Chair of NHS Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Let’s celebrate this incredible milestone – 85% of Stockport people who are eligible for their first jab have done it. So I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported the vaccination programme, including all our volunteers, and especially everyone who has come forward for their vaccination.
“However, we can’t stop now, so we ask the remaining people, who are eligible for their first or second jabs, to walk straight into a pop up this week or book an appointment at one of our venues by using the National Booking Service.”
Councillor Jude Wells, Cabinet Member for Adult Care and Health at Stockport Council, said: “Everyone who has had their first vaccination in Stockport can take a bow for helping to protect themselves and others against Covid.
“But we need to keep our momentum to retain our collective protection levels. We’d really like to see more people complete their vaccination by getting their second jab, and to carry on seeing even more of our 16 to 17-year-olds, who can go to our pop up clinics, get their very first jab.”
