Hospital stay for flu victims

Hospital stay for flu victims

With the flu virus now circulating in the region, hospitals have begun admitting infected patients with several needing intensive care treatment. It’s vital if you or your child is in an at-risk group and haven’t yet had your vaccination that you book an appointment with your local GP surgery immediately.

This year the vaccination is a good match for the type of flu circulating so it really will give patients, who are at risk of suffering serious complications, protection from flu.

Dr Viren Mehta, a local GP and NHS Stockport CCG’s Clinical Director, said “So far practices have been seeing fewer patients to date than we normally do for the flu vaccine. People seem to be taking the view that it’s not really important but I can’t stress enough how vital it is that people in at risks groups get vaccinated. We are already seeing people ending up seriously ill in hospital yet this is a preventable illness. Flu is potentially life threatening so please don’t take a risk with your health. If you’re entitled to a flu jab, but haven’t had it yet, please get yourself booked in now.”

It’s not too late to have your annual flu jab so book it today.
