Health experts in Stockport are backing an exercise campaign aimed at helping children reach the minimum 60 minutes of physical activity they need each day.
Change4Life and Disney have teamed up again to take kids on a 10 Minute Shake Up summer adventure which encourages them to get active in manageable, bite-sized chunks.
Over a quarter of children in the UK are overweight or obese but most parents don’t know the risk that poses to their health.
With the summer holidays now underway, it’s the perfect time to get parents’ attention to ensure they get their children active.
Dr. Vicci Owen-Smith, Clinical Director for Public Health for NHS Stockport CCG, said: “Exercise is really important for children and this is a fun way to encourage them to form healthy habits to last their lifetime.
“Levels of childhood obesity are unacceptably high and parents need to understand the damage being overweight does so they will take exercise seriously and encourage their children.
“As well as the physical health benefits, recent studies have shown that there a strong link between physically active children and improved self-esteem, confidence, attention span and even academic achievements.
“That means there is even more reason for parents to stop their children from watching TV or playing video games all the time and get them active.”
This year Change4Life has games featuring characters from Disney’s latest animation Cars 3, as well as Moana, Frozen Fever, Zootropolis, Beauty and the Beast and The Lodge
The Disney characters will have children jumping, diving, bouncing and dancing with their special moves.
A new supercharged shake up is revealed each week to keep kids interested and on the go all summer. Search Change4Life online to sign up and receive the free packs.
