Get Jab for your 12-15 Year Olds Off the To-Do List Before Christmas

With just under three weeks to go until Christmas, don’t forget to get vital jobs like outstanding COVID-19 jabs done. Getting vaccinated means you can relax on the big day when family and friends get together.

We are offering two more dates for parents, carers and guardians to book a time to get your 12-15 year old sorted with a jab. Maybe they missed it at school? Or maybe your child was home-schooled and commitments didn’t allow the time to attend the external sessions?

This Thursday, 9 December, we are encouraging busy parents and carers to book their child an appointment at St Peter’s Church, Hazel Grove, SK7 4EA. It is open between 4pm and 8pm. Walk-ins are also welcome, but booking is preferable.

The next 12-15 clinic is Monday, 13 December, at Life Leisure Houldsworth, Reddish, SK5 7AT, from 4pm to 8pm.

Until Saturday, 18 December, parents and carers can also take their child into the walk-in vaccination centre in the One Stockport Hub in Merseyway, where they are vaccinating eligible 12-15 year olds from 10am to 3pm every Saturday. Just walk straight in.

Dr Cath Munro, Chair of NHS Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Many people will start to become more sociable as families, friends and neighbours get together to celebrate our Christmas holiday season. But we will relax better if our 12-15 year olds have their jabs, and people over 40 have their boosters or even their first or second doses, so everyone is ready for partying.

“Along with washing our hands regularly and wearing face coverings in public spaces, we really do need to get ourselves and our children vaccinated to do all we can to protect them and our families. Together, these things will reduce the risk of suffering the more serious symptoms of Covid, including Long Covid, or even having to be hospitalised if you do get it. It really is the most sensible thing to do before the festivities and fun begin.”

Councillor Colin Foster, Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Family Services & Education, said: “We are pleased that the pop ups for parents and carers to get their 12-15 year olds vaccinated against Covid have been so popular.

“As many of us step closer to our festive get-togethers with the older generation, our children and even their children, it’s absolutely right to consider how we best protect ourselves against Covid. Getting everyone who is eligible for a vaccination or a booster done and dusted is one of the best ways of reducing the risks and keeping things real this Christmas.”
