One of Stockport’s most innovative doctor’s surgeries has been rated as “Outstanding” by the national body tasked with monitoring GP services.
Brinnington Surgery was awarded the top status following a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC)
The CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. They monitor and inspect services, to ensure people are given safe and effective, high-quality care, and encourage improvement.
The regulator looks at five areas – whether services are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led – and rates them in one of four categories.
In every area, Brinnington Surgery was rated as either Outstanding or Good, and its overall performance was evaluated as Outstanding.
What makes the achievement even more impressive is that only 4% of practices across the country receive the top notch rating.
In his report, the Chief Inspector of General Practice Professor Steve Field said “The practice had a strong vision, which put quality, effective care and treatment as its top priority.
“We observed a strong patient-centred culture. Patients said they were treated with compassion, dignity and respect and they were involved in decisions about their care and treatment.”
It was noted that almost 9 out of every 10 patients questioned at the surgery would recommend it to friends and family.
Paul Ansbro, the practice manager at Brinnington, said “We are delighted the hard work of everyone at the practice has been recognised by the CQC with the awarding of this “outstanding” status.
“However we’re not surprised by it, as ensuring that our patients get the highest quality care drives everything we do here.
“We won’t be complacent either so, despite our status, we will continually strive to make improvements to the care we offer our patients.”
