Substance Misuse Awareness

This session will be taking place on Thursday 23rd October 2025, 11am – 4.30 at Merseyway Innovation Centre, 21-23 Merseyway SK1 1PN. The course looks at: The different substances and their effects; How to support people to make positive changes to their substance use; The effects of our own attitudes to substance misuse; The services available and how to contact them. Greater Manchester 'Introduction to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Training

This training is suitable for anyone working directly with children, young people and families in Greater Manchester who wants to gain a better understanding of FASD. Respiratory Interest Group (SPRIG) - Meet the Team Event

UKHSA Webinar: Changes to the Childhood Immunisation Schedule

Taking place on Wednesday 3rd December 2025, 2pm – 3.15, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) Immunisation team will be hosting this webinar to inform you of the second phase of the planned changes to the routine childhood vaccination schedule which will be implemented from January 2026. This will include the introduction of Varicella (chickenpox) vaccination programme (MMRV) and a new routine vaccination appointment at 18 months of age. This webinar is aimed at health professionals involved in the commissioning and delivery of childhood immunisations including those working in Primary Care, Screening & Immunisation teams, Health Visiting teams and Integrated Care Boards (ICB). Black History Month 2025: Black Maternal Health Panel

Taking place on Tuesday 14th October, 11am – 12.30 via MS Teams. NHS App Update Webinar

In this session, hear updates on the upcoming NHS App national campaign, the refreshed communication toolkit, NHS App Ambassadors engagement and partnership working. Nurturing Compassionate and Inclusive NHS Cultures - Online Course

NHS England is offering a free, flexible online course designed to support colleagues working to embed compassionate and inclusive cultures across health and social care. The course introduces the NHS Culture and Leadership Programme (CLP), providing practical tools and resources to help participants on their culture transformation journey. Mental Health Workshop: Improving Communication & Red Flags

This one-day course provides essential knowledge and skills for responding safely and effectively to mental health problems. BTEC Level 4 GP Assistant (GPA) Programme

The next cohort is due to start on 1st November 2025. The programme is based around experimental, on-the-job learning in practice and follows an online self-regulated framework.  Each practice will receive a £1,700 payment per GPA to support protected learning time while undertaking the programme, plus a further £420 for the GPA mentor. Anyone who would like to apply can complete the application via this link. The Practice Manager would need to complete the first page of the form and upon pressing the submit button the form will then be emailed automatically to the GPA for them to complete their information. Once the GPA completes their information and submits the form it will automatically go to the GP mentor for completion. After this it will return to Cheshire & Merseyside Training Hub, who will contact the applicant in due course regarding the next stage in the process and let them know if they have been successful in gaining a place on the course. Advanced Care Plan Awareness Sessions for Babies, Children and Young People

The Palliative and End of Life Care networks are facilitating these bi-monthly sessions for any professional to attend.  The aims are to increase professionals’ awareness of Advanced Care Planning, its purpose, potential and utilisation. Taking place on Friday 19th September, 10.30 – 12pm; Monday 3rd November, 1pm – 2.30; Tuesday 20th January, 10am – 11.30, each session will be the same information so you will only need to attend one via MS Teams. Primary Care Lunch and Learn Webinar Series

This series of interactive ‘Lunch & Learn’ webinars arranged by the NHS GM Cancer Alliance are aimed at Primary Care Professionals, taking place via MS Teams on the second Tuesday of each month, 1pm – 1.50. A subject matter expert will host each session and each session will focus on a particular topic/tumour site. These topics include: Personalised Care; Head & Neck Cancers; Neuro-Oncology; Breast Cancer; Haemato-Oncology; Skin Cancer; Gynaecological Cancer. In support of Dyslexia Awareness week, the North West NHS Dyslexia Network are hosting an online webinar session on Wednesday 8th October 2025, 11.30 – 1pm. Suicide Prevention Training - Focused on Veterans

In a recent Greater Manchester suicide prevention steering group, a representative from PAPYRUS shared that they have been awarded funding by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund to provide fully funded suicide prevention training for those working with or supporting veterans. The aim is to equip participants with skills to identify warning signs, intervene effectively and reduce stigma around mental health and suicide among veterans.  Two different online courses are available:- SPOT – Suicide Prevention Overview Tutorial – What EVERYONE needs to know (90-minute training) and SPEAK – Suicide Prevention Explore, Ask, Keep-Safe. An introduction to suicide prevention skills (3.5hr training). Both these sessions are delivered in the context of supporting service leavers. Poverty and Health - NHS Greater Manchester Free Training

Poverty is the biggest driver of ill health and early death in Greater Manchester. NHS GM is committed to tackling this and since May 2023 have been working in partnership with Resolve Poverty (formerly GM Poverty Action) offering free training to staff aimed at exploring the relationship between poverty and health and the steps we can all take to make a difference. To date 1,262 GM health and care colleagues have attended the training, the next phase of the training has been launched. This 4-Day comprehensive face-to-face training equips HCPs with the skills needed to deliver patient-centred care and improve outcomes, fully aligned with PCI Level 3 standards. Advanced Care Planning - Free Training Opportunity

Stockport Specialist Palliative Care Team are offering this training, which includes why advanced acre planning is important, how to start conversations, where to record and how to share care plans. The training is for all health and social care Professionals involved with people with life limiting illnesses. NIHR Senior Research Leader (SRL) - Cohort 4 call AHPs, Nurses, Midwives

The Senior Research Leader Programme (SRL) supports Nurses, Midwives and from August 2025 Allied Health Professionals to grow as research leaders and drive improvements in health and social care through research. You can apply for funding to take part in this 3-year programme, which allows protected time for research for 2 days a week. The programme is open to registered nurses and midwives and AHPs working in England with experience in research leadership in health or social care at a local and/or regional level. The programme will enable you to use your knowledge and personal experiences to lead, empower and motivate others to participate in research-related activities that improve patient care.  We are seeking individuals from diverse health and social care backgrounds who excel in leading research, fostering collaboration, and generating innovative ideas. Understanding Triage Methodologies

This course is funded using national ring-fenced CPD funding from NHSE, therefore only the following roles are eligible to attend – GPNs, ACPs (excluding Pharmacists), Nurse Associates, ANPs, Paramedics & Physiotherapists. The aim of this module is to provide you with the knowledge required to utilise triage and decision-making theories to assess the urgency of patients’ needs and apply principles of prioritisation and the identification of red flags. The course commencing on 11th September will run over a 6-week period (1 day weekly), the classes will run from 9am – 4pm on: (Thursday’s); 11th September; 18th September; 25th September; 2nd October; 9th October; 16th October. This module is delivered using a Campus Plus blended learning approach, this involves timetabled face-face campus-based and online sessions. You are also expected to carry out your own independent study including research and assessment activities. Greater Manchester Primary Care Summit 2025 - Save the Date

Responding Well to Conflict Training for Frontline Staff

The Greater Manchester Primary Care Provider Board have arranged the following Conflict training, suitable for General Practice staff:

  • ‘Responding Well to Conflict (For front-line staff) – GP and Practice Manager-led online training designed for non-clinical frontline staff. This interactive session covers common sources of patient conflict and provides practical tools for de-escalation and managing the emotional impact:
  • ‘Responding Well to Conflict (For Managers) – This session explores effective ways to support staff when they face conflict in the workplace, including instances of abuse from patients. It will also cover the contractual obligations and practical steps involved in managing abusive or violent patients. This session is specifically designed for managers working in General Practice:

Greater Manchester Workshops: Changes to the Childhood Immunisation Schedule

Greater Manchester Screening & Immunisation Team are facilitating several online workshops to support you through the planned changes taking effect from 1st July 2025. The workshops will be open to all healthcare professionals working in Greater Manchester, with a role in immunisation particularly those working in primary care, health visiting and community teams, including hospital and trust-based staff. To note, this is a workshop for health care colleagues only and not open to members of the public. It is hoped that, by attending one of these workshops, you will gain further detail on the changes with a chance to ask questions. There is no need to join all sessions as the core content of the workshop will be repeated at each session, with opportunity to ask questions at the end. Each question and answer will be added to a Q and A paper after each session, this will be available to view on FutureNHS platform (link below).
