Termination of Pregnancy

Patients requesting a termination of pregnancy (TOP) should be provided with the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) helpline number. Their call handlers will go through a telephone assessment, offer your patient a choice of providers based on their clinical need/personal preference and then book them into an appointment. A healthcare professional can also ring on the patients behalf. The practice does not have to complete a referral letter.

The helpline number is 0345 365 0565 and it is open:

• Monday to Friday 8am-9pm
• Saturday: 8:30am-6pm
• Sunday: 9:30am-2:30pm

There is a reduced service on Bank Holidays and the helpline is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Outside of these hours an answer machine will be available giving details of opening times and advice lines for support.
