Medicines Optimisation

The Medicines Optimisation team is responsible for the clinical and cost effective use of medicines. The team works with practices to review drugs, and with pharmacies to encourage participation in patients’ medication reviews.

Most practices now have a Practice Based Medicines Coordinator (PBMC) as part of their team employed directly by the practice.

The team works with secondary care (Hospital) colleagues to agree product choices and treatment guidance.  They also support other health provider services and the Local Authority in the use of medicines.

We have an email enquiry service for Stockport’s health professionals to submit non-urgent clinical enquiries, which is STOCCG.Pxenquiries@nhs.net. A prescribing advisor will pick up your email and respond within the working day. If they are unable to answer your query immediately, they will acknowledge your enquiry and give an approximate response time.  Only clinical queries should be made to this address.
