General Practice Learning Development Portfolio

NHS Stockport CCG attaches great importance to the provision of, and access to, Continuing Professional Development, Education and Learning for ALL staff working in General Practice. We recognise that in order to provide the best possible quality service to patients, staff have to be equipped with current best practice, knowledge, techniques and skills.

The CCG is committed to developing the skills and potential of staff in order to meet their professional needs and help them to contribute to the CCG and their practices objectives of delivering a high quality service. You can find out what development, education and learning opportunities are available to you in the Learning and Development Portfolio.

The CCG arranges Masterclasses to run 4 times per year. Practices have the opportunity to take advantage of the Mastercall cover provided (please see details of how to book Mastercall) to allow them to close for the afternoon so the whole practice can attend and  undertake continuous professional development.

These educational events are designed to ensure that the training and development needs of the whole general practice team are considered.  Workshops will be offered at each Masterclass to meet the needs of the whole general practice work.

Dates and programmes for all future masterclasses can be found here.

Previous Masterclass documentation and presentations can be found here.

Virtual College Learning Management System Upgrade – Action for all learners

Practice Managers have all been advised that the existing Virtual College Learning Management System is being upgraded.  This will have implications for all learners around accessing their training records and certificates from previously completed courses.  It is important that all learners complete all current learning and download any relevant training records and certificates before 31st December. Please click here for guidance. After that date, the information will not be available and previous certificates will not be transitioning to the new system.  The current system will shut down on 31st December and the new system will be available w/c 16th January.  Guidance will be sent to help you access the new system.

You have direct access to the Virtual College Customer Support team who are available Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm customersupport@virtual-college.co.uk  or 01943 889480.  They can be contacted with queries around the download or extraction of data or to assist with accessing the new system.  Of course, the Education & Development Team in NHS GM Stockport Locality Team is also on hand to help.

Stockport CCG general practices have access to our Learning Management System (LMS). This system is the platform we use to manage both the face to face and electronic learning and development opportunities that are available to both the CCG workforce and the Stockport general practice workforce.

All bookings should be made (apart from the Masterclass) via this system whenever possible.

The system also enables practice employees to:

  • Access e-learning packages
  • View a record of their training history
  • View planned training
  • Print off certificates.

In addition, it allows Practice Managers to manage and report on their employees training records.

Access to the system is via the following link:

Please note we have already registered on to the system all Stockport Practice Managers, GPs, Practice Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, HCAs and APs (that we have been made aware of).  The user name for all those registered is their e-mail address.

If you have any technical difficulties please go to the ‘Help & Support’ tab in the system, alternatively ring the LMS Help Desk on 01943 885095.  A user guide has been developed (see below) to assist practices access and navigate the new system (this is also available under ‘Resources’ on the LMS system).
