Weight Management – Raising the Issue of Weight

Target Audience/Eligibility Criteria

This course is suitable for any professional dealing with patients/clients who would benefit from weight loss.

Course Aim

This course aims to highlight the importance of raising the issue of weight, how to do so and the evidence behind this issue. It will address the psychological, medical and social impact of overweight and obesity and the various interventions available.
The session supports staff working in primary care with the implementation of the enhanced weight management service in their practice.

This session will be relevant for professionals working with patients with a weight ranging from a healthy to morbidly obese. This course has been designed by ABL’s specialist weight management team of GPs, psychologists and lifestyle practitioners.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the education session, delegates will:

  • Feel confident and able to raise the issue of weight with their patients/clients using motivational techniques
  • Be aware of latest evidence, available interventions and key health messages related to weight management
  • Understand the role of Bariatric surgery, Obesogenic Medications and the psychological support as well as lifestyle support elements of weight management.
  • Have details of available weight management services (local and online) for additional support and how patients can access these services / referral criteria and pathways.

This session will be carried out via video conference, delegates will need a computer or smart phone to join, where possible they are encouraged to use a web camera to fully participate. All joining details and coaching will be available before the session.
