Target Audience/Eligibility Criteria

Whole General Practice Workforce

Course Overview

Presentation and conversation with Pride in Practice about how to sign up for a fully-funded course and accreditation programme. Since 2010, Pride in Practice have been supporting primary care services in Greater Manchester to improve their confidence in working with LGBTQ+ communities through understanding inclusive language, the historical context of LGBTQ+ wxclusion from the healthcare environment and the barriers to access that we can address as primary care providers. Their General Practice teams play an important and positive role in making primary care a more welcoming place!

The language we use is crucial in developing positive relationships. The words you use – and the way you use them – can provide room for your patients to share important information, signal respect for your patients’ identities, and help them feel more comfortable with presenting for healthcare support. contribute to a culture of inclusion. This, in turn, can support LGBTQ+ patients to access timely and appropriate care.

Along with sharing the work we’re doing in Greater Manchester, this webinar aims to improve your knowledge and confidence with using LGBTQ+ inclusive language. We’ll define some key LGBTQ+ terms that you’re likely to come across in your work. We’ll then focus on practical ways that open and inclusive language can be embedded into your daily practice, featuring real life case studies and interactive activities. Finally, we’ll talk through the resources for signposting and social prescribing that you can access through our programme.
