The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is an independent organisation that helps those working in the NHS, local authorities and the wider community deliver high-quality health and social care.
GP practices are expected to take into account the recommendations in NICE clinical guidelines and technology appraisals when deciding what treatments to offer people. This involves looking at what they are currently doing and making changes as needed.
NICE guidelines are not a replacement for the judgement of a healthcare professional. However, recommendations from NICE are expected to be taken fully into account when decisions about treatment and care are made.
We are consulting with you in an attempt NOT to set up a detailed audit system, and ask if all GP practices could provide an update on their systems and processes for noting and implementing updated NICE guidance. We have set up a survey here on Citizen Space to collect your information.
