What is the Stockport Nurse Mentors & Training Pod Offer?

Stockport General Practices have access to a bank of experienced nurse mentors and a Training Pod which together aims to support the continued delivery of excellent care out in the community by ensuring every Health Care Support Worker (HCSW), Nursing Associate, Trainee Practice Nurse and Registered Practice Nurse working in Stockport General Practice is confident and competent in their ability to work in a person centred, compassionate way. These services can be accessed at no cost to any Stockport General Practice.

What services can you access from the Nurse Mentors & Training Pod?

The services are continually developing but include:

  • Support with induction of a new to general practice nurse
  • Development of an educational plan to support nurses who are new to general practice
  • Support for HCSWs, Nurse Associates and Practice Nurses who are learning new clinical skills or implementing new knowledge and skills around long term conditions including those covered in the GM Foundation Digital Programmes (details below)
  • Observation and competency sign off to ensure those trained are assessed as competent and are supported to embed their new skills safely and with high quality
  • Access to clinical supervision to support all our nursing workforce receive the peer support and guidance needed to maximise their wellbeing and operate efficiently and effectively

Which programmes can be supported?

A range of support is available but is tailored to help embed the learning gained from the digital foundation programmes for Health Care Support Workers, Nurse Associates and General Practice Nurses.

The mentor and training pod teams are made up of highly experienced and motivated Stockport Parctice Nurses with a passion for education and development.
