Last year Parkrun launched the parkrun practice initiative with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).
Since then nearly 800 practices have linked with local parkruns, supporting their staff and patients to walk, run, or volunteer and to get involved with their local community on a Saturday morning.
Building on this, and the NHS70 parkrun celebrations in June last year, RCGP and Parkrun are organising a GP parkrun pledge day. The aim is to get 1,000 GPs and many more practice staff to pledge to participate (walk, run, volunteer) at 5k parkruns across the UK on Saturday 1 June 2019.
As well as encouraging GPs and practice staff to take part and bring friends/patients along, the event will celebrate the first anniversary of the parkrun practice initiative, raise awareness of parkrun in the health sector and help to encourage sustained participation by those who are least active or who have health conditions.
The concept of the GP parkrun pledge day is also being supported by high-profile figures within the health sector.
Parkrun are in the process of developing the online pledge platform which will be hosted on the RCGP website which will be shared with Practice.
