The multi-disciplinary breathlessness clinic is now accepting GP referrals.
The clinic is aimed at patients presenting with breathlessness, thought to be of mixed cardiac and respiratory aetiology, or where the underlying cause is really uncertain. It is not appropriate for those patients who already have a diagnosis that accounts for their symptoms (eg. COPD or CCF), or patients who have already been extensively investigated.
Please ensure that anyone referred to the clinic meets the referral criteria and appropriate pre-referral investigations, including blood tests, ECG and CXR have been done. The clinic is primarily a diagnostic clinic, with the aim to diagnose patients quickly, then step down to community clinics or discharge. There is a strong patient education element, whereby the TPA (Target Prevention Alliance) empower patients to make positive lifestyle changes.
