Target Audience/Eligibility Criteria
All members of the General Practice Workforce should have an awareness of Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) and Part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014 and how this impacts on their work role. This training is aimed at adults with a role to play in the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) system in particular to giving health advice. There are three options and each one is for a different audience.
Course Aim
The Council for Disabled Children have developed an e-learning programme to support health practitioners understand the duties set out in the Children and Families Act and the implications for health practice.
The Children and Families Act introduced changes in how education, health and social care services are organised and delivered for disabled children and young people and those with special educational needs. The course will help you understand the role of good advice in the plan.
Option 1 is for Health colleagues who:
- Are new to the world of SEND
- May occasionally give advice for EHCPs
Option 2 is intended for Health colleagues who:
- Regularly give advice for EHCPs
- Already have a clear understanding of the purpose of an EHCP, from the child or young person’s perspective
- Already have a clear understanding of the difference between aspirations, outcomes sought and SMART outcomes
- Already have a clear understanding of the holistic nature of outcomes
Option 3 is intended for Health colleagues who:
- Have a strategic role in the EHCP process
- Have a role in quality assurance
- Already have a good understanding of aspirations as the golden thread through the plan
Course Duration
Approximately 45-60 minutes per module, you can work through at your own pace. You do not need to complete all of the lessons on the same day.
