Safeguarding Adults – Alerter Training for GPs (e-learning)

Target Audience/Eligibility Criteria

The Safeguarding Adults Board has agreed a competency framework to ensure that as many staff as possible that may come into contact with vulnerable adults are aware of the signs of abuse and know where to refer any concerns.  The Care Quality Commission also recommends awareness training for staff in Safeguarding Adults.  It is recommended that all GPs and Dental practitioner staff who have direct contact with vulnerable adults should undertake the KWANGO E-Learning package on Safeguarding Adults.  This is classed as level 2 safeguarding adults training.

Course Aim

This course aims to ensure that they are aware of what would constitute abuse under Stockport Safeguarding Adults Policy.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Explain what constitutes abuse
  • Describe how to recognise abuse
  • Describe what to do if you suspect an adult is being abused
  • Discuss how to reduce the likelihood of abuse
  • Describe the referral/alert process
  • Outline the multi-agency response

  • This course was originally commissioned by the Workforce Development Directorate, NHS South of England (originally NESC), for use in NHS South Central. It was adopted nationally following a small scale review by local Safeguarding leads and the Department of Health Safeguarding Adults Team.
