Target Audience/Eligibility Criteria
This course is suitable for Practice Nurses, Assistant Practitioners and Health Care Assistants looking for practical ECG training.
Course Aim
This course aims to provide a short tutorial on how to do a good quality 12 lead ECG and troubleshooting followed by hands on practical ECG training in an ECG clinic. Delegates will then be given an ECG log sheet to complete, supervised by a key trainer within your workplace, who will provide further practical ECG training and assessment.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course delegates will be able to:
- Identify the correct 12 lead ECG electrode positions.
- Identify ECG artefact and how to eliminate it.
- Have the basic skills and knowledge of how to do a practical 12 lead ECG.

Sessions take place at the Northwest Heart Centre, Cardiac Diagnostics Department, Entrance 6, UHSM, Southmoor Road, Wythenshawe, Manchester, M23 9LT
Cost
The cost to attend this session is £tbcpp, which must be paid in advance of the session going ahead (please see terms and conditions for further details). However, for a session to be viable we need 2 delegates to attend (total cost of £120). We will match up individuals wanting to attend so practices can just book one place. However, please bear in mind, if we cannot fill the second place, we will contact you at least six weeks in advance to re-arrange the training date or cancel your place (or alternatively give you the opportunity to cover the full session cost of £120 to enable the session to run).
Booking Process/Additional Information
- To book a place an email must be sent to gmicb-sto.learningdevelopment@nhs.net from either the Practice Manager or Lead GP confirming roles, names and contact details of those that require places. By submitting this booking request, you are confirming that you have agreed a process to deduct any agreed costs from your next payment from NHS GM. - Locums an individuals who would like to self-fund should try to agree this process within their practice or their main practice so the above process can be followed (the next practice payment deducted from NHS GM) and they in turn deduct payment form the individual. Where this is not possible we will arrange an alternative method of paying and self-funders should email as above to book a place/arrange payment.
- As the ECG clinics are ad hoc, the number of ECGs done in the clinic will vary.
Please be advised you will need to be assessed by a key trainer within your workplace on completion of the log sheet before being able to perform ECGs independently. Please ensure you identify a suitable practitioner that can undertake this with you in the practice
