Target Audience/Eligibility Criteria
This course is aimed at Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Nurse Associates, Assistant Practitioners and Health Care Assistants.
Course Aim
This session aims to provide those new to diabetic foot screening with the knowledge and skills to confidently and competently complete a diabetic foot screening.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course delegates will:
- Have a knowledge of potential foot complications of diabetes
- Be able to complete a diabetic foot screening on low risk patients
- Know when to refer to Podiatry and the Diabetes Foot Service
- Be able to identify a diabetic foot emergency and know when to refer
- Have a knowledge of Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)
- Be able to complete a Doppler assessment and how to interpret Doppler results
- Understand when and how to utilise the PVD referral route
