Conflict Resolution – Basic Training

Target Audience/Eligibility Criteria

All frontline NHS staff who work with members of the public. This training should be undertaken every 3 years.

Course Aim

This course aims to equip members of staff to respond appropriately where their work may expose them to situations that could become volatile and confrontational and potentially result in abuse or violence.

Learning Objectives

Upon Successful completion of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Describe common causes of conflict
  • Describe the forms of communication
  • Understand how communication can break down
  • Understand communication models that can assist in conflict resolution
  • Describe patterns of behaviour that may be encountered during different interactions
  • Recognise warning and danger signs
  • Use distance when dealing with conflict
  • Use ‘reasonable force’ in relation to conflict resolution
  • Use different methods for dealing with possible conflict situations
