The following online course’s are suitable for GPs and Practice Nurses who undertake cervical cytology sampling and have previously attended a recognised cervical cytology sample takers theoretical and practical course, as 3 yearly update training.

The NHS Cervical Screening Programme (NHSCSP) is pleased to announce the release of an e- learning resource which is free of charge for cervical sample takers 3 yearly update training. The module is hosted on the Health Education England’s website e-learning for Healthcare (e-LfH) – https://e-lfh.org.uk/programmes/nhs-screening-programmes/ . The resource is part of a suite of e-learning materials for staff working across all NHS screening programmes. The resource is designed to meet the cervical sample taker 3 yearly update training requirements as set out in the NHSCSP Guidance for the training of cervical sample takers. It is anticipated that the module will facilitate improved and flexible access to update training to meet the needs of the sample taker population.
Royal College General Practitioners (RCGP)
This update is for primary care and other professionals caring for women undergoing cervical screening. It will serve as a useful introduction and refresher on the topic, to build on the locally-based practical training and assessment advised for all NHS cervical screening sample takers. This course is Free to members, £55 for non-members can be accessed via RCGP Learning.

Booking Process/Additional Information

- All cervical sample takers should undertake update training as a minimum every 3 years.
- Quality Assurance recommends that all update training is delivered with a blended approach. In order to achieve this, the screening and immunisation team will continue to attend practice nurse forums, GP educational sessions and sexual health provider sessions in order to provide an overview of coverage and local incidents within the programme.
