HIV Culturally Competent Care

Target Audience

This session is suitable for Clinicians and Health Care Support Workers including GPs, NPs, PNs, NAs, APs & HCAs

Course Overview

The PaSH (Passionate about Sexual Health) Partnership is an association of BHA for equality, a racial health inequalities charity, LGBT Foundation, a health and wellbeing charity for LGBTQ+ communities and George House Trust, A charity supporting people living with HIV. At the PaSH Partnership we are working alongside sexual health services and local government in Greater Manchester to end all HIV transmission by 2030.

Greater Manchester has one of the highest rates of HIV in the UK and it is likely that HCPs will be dealing with patients who either have undiagnosed HIV or who are aging with HIV as an underlying condition managed with medication. For this reason, HIV and support on tailoring interventions to racialised  +LGBTQI communities could be an area which Doctors might benefit from extra training.

Course Aim

The aim of the session is:

  • To support doctors to be more culturally competent when treating racialised or LGBTQIA patients
  • ‘know the signs’ of when to suspect HIV
  • Provide up-to-date information of HIV treatment & prevention and to tackle HIV stigma

This training will cover:

  • Clinical Indicators of HIV plus prevention, PEP, PrEP and treatment
