Heart Failure Study Day for Primary Care

Target Audience/Eligibility Criteria

This interactive study day is appropriate for GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses and any professional involved with people with cardiovascular related chronic disease.

Course Overview

You may be managing diabetes, hypertension, established CVD or simply caring for our more mature population. This study day will help you to appreciate the vital role we play diagnosing and managing heart failure. Routine treatments such as ACE Inhibitors, Beta Blockers, plus the more recent therapies that are being under used, often due to lack of understanding or mistrust but lives could be prolonged.

Course Content

This course will include:

  • Epidemiology of heart failure in Primary Care
  • Pathophysiology of heart failure made easy
  • Diagnosis & investigations for heart failure, including NICE guidance – echo’s and BNP explained
  • Drug therapies in heart failure explained pragmatically and local pathways
  • Developments in heart failure with reference to new technologies for management
  • Interactive Clinical Cases and quick-fire session

Learning Objectives

At the end of the day you will understand:

  • The practice population at risk of developing heart failure
  • The impact of heart failure on the individual and wider practice population
  • The importance of effective management for those with heart failure
  • The benefits and monitoring of pharmacological interventions available for treatment
  • The rationale behind the Current Clinical Guidelines for the diagnosis and management of heart failure in primary care
