Getting Started with Long Term Condition Assessment and Management in Primary – Inhaler Devices

Target Audience/Eligibility Criteria

This course is suitable for those new to General Practice OR those currently working within General Practice who have not previously been involved in a specific disease area OR those who are looking to update their knowledge and understanding.

Course Aim

This is part of a suite of LTC modules. Inhaler Devices is the third module. It can be undertaken as a standalone module or as part of the full programme. This module aims to provide a sound educational base in the allocation and utilisation of inhaler devices and to teach General Practice Nurses how to work with their patients to ensure optimised allocation and use.

  • Device Technology
  • Matching Device to Patient
  • Inhaler Technique and Assessment

Learning Objectives

At the end of this module delegates will be better able to:

  • Describe the difference between pMDI, DPI and SMI devices
  • Promote the safe and effective prescribing of environmentally friendly inhaler devices by carrying out a patient specific device suitability assessment
  • Teach the patient how to use their device without critical error
