Allies in Cancer Care Course

Target Audience/Eligibility Criteria

This newly fully funder Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course is suitable for all Allied Health Professionals living or working in Greater Manchester.

Whether you work for local council, the NHS, a charity, a healthcare company, a private practice or for yourself, this course is for you

Course Aim

This course will provide you with a greater understanding of what it means to support someone living with cancer and equip you with the skills needed to provide better patient care. You’ll complete the course with a better knowledge of the unique challenges facing cancer patients and the pivotal role Allied Health Professionals play in holistic treatment.

Course Content

The course will cover the following topics:

  • Understanding cancer and its treatments
  • Understanding the psychological impact of a cancer diagnosis including strategies for healthcare professionals to better support people with a cancer diagnosis
  • Developing personal resilience and communication skills
  • Supporting people with a cancer diagnosis to live well
  • Nutrition for living with and beyond cancer
  • Service improvement skills and how to work effectively with service user representatives
  • Understanding palliative and end of life care
  • Understanding and delivering personalised care interventions for cancer patients

Course Duration

14 hours of study (estimated), online/virtually. Live sessions will run over 8 weeks

Trainer/Facilitator

The course has been created by the University of Salford in collaboration with The Christie School of Oncology.

The course starts in January 2023 and is available until September 2023
