Adapting Cancer Screening for those with Learning Disabilities

Target Audience/Eligibility Criteria

This training is suitable for Nurse Practitioners and Practice Nurses.

Course Aim 

This session aims to raise awareness of the importance of cancer screening for people with a learning disability and the reasonable adjustments they may need in order to participate in bowel, breast and cervical cancer screening programmes.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course delegates will:

  • Have an increased ability to effectively communicate with people with a learning disability
  • Understand the importance of assessing a person’s mental capacity and how to do this
  • Have an increased understanding of their Best Interest decision maker role and the responsibilities of this
  • Be aware of the reasonable adjustments they can offer to a person with a learning disability

These sessions will be carried out via a video conferencing platform, delegates will need a computer or smart phone to join, where possible they are encouraged to use a web camera to fully participate. All joining details and coaching will be available before the session.
