5th August 2016
Please see below a short update on the progress of activity for this week.
A blog from Dr Simon Woodworth has been uploaded to the NHS England website, it can be viewed at: https://www.england.nhs.uk/2016/08/simon-woodworth/
- We are currently working through the procurement process for the MCP (Multispecialty Community Provider) – a new form of integrated provider. Following the release of some national guidance relating to MCP developments and local work on the MCP assessment framework, an extension has been given to the Provider Board to respond to the procurement questions and clarification questions by 12th The link to the guidance can be found here. The joint commissioning board will be reviewing this in line with the Stockport approach.
- Following the announcement of £19m over three years to fund Stockport transformation plans, the overarching business case went to the CCG governing body and the overview and scrutiny committee last week and will go to other parts of system.
The CCG were broadly happy but requested more emphasis on mental health and prevention. Further work will be carried out on the detailed business cases to develop these areas along with a costed workforce plan. Within the programme office there will be focus on planning for implementation.
- As part of this work, a series of sessions focussing on workforce will take place over the next couple of weeks. A Design and Steering Group meeting took place in the boardroom at Regent House on Tuesday morning to focus on the future workforce requirements within the Enhanced Primary Care work around mental health, physio and pharmacy. This will enable us to enhance provision of these services in the community for patients and free up GP time. We are due to complete workforce plan for Stockport Together by the 12th August for the implementation of the model starting on the 3rd
- The FT’s announcement regarding necessary cost saving measures last week reinforces the case for transformation. If we spent the £19m on the FT, the investment would be used up in 175 days. While £19m out of the £500m we spend on health and care across Stockport annually may seem a relatively a small amount, it is enough to create significant and lasting system transformation and reinforces the need to move at pace to implementation. Stockport Together’s response to the announcement can be found
- The Interim MCP provider board is moving forward and is out to advert for two GPs to join the leadership team. Following a review of clinical leadership support, the CCG has carried out a review of clinical leadership and released 110 hours a month for involvement with provisioning of the MCP. We are also looking at how can provide management support to the MCP more effectively.
The leadership team is exploring space to work as its own organisation and this may mean changes to the shape of the Stockport Together programme team and working bases. Further updates will be shared as these discussions progress.
- The first phase of a new online space for staff across the Stockport Together to share ideas and collaborate in their development will launch next Wednesday, August 10th. It is thought to be the first time such a shared ‘crowdsourcing’ platform has been launched for staff across health and social care partner organisations.
Groups of staff will be invited to join ‘Talking Together’ by email in two phases during August and September. Users will be invited to respond to challenges by submitting ideas, commenting, and voting with a ‘thumbs up or down’, similar to interaction with a social media site. Life Leisure has generously provided incentives to encourage users to sign up to the site and support health promotion.
- An informal staff drop-in session for community based staff will take place next Tuesday, 9th August from 12-1.30pm on the 9th Floor at Regent House. Margaret Malkin, Acting Director of the Community Healthcare Business Group, and members of the Stockport Together team on hand to answer questions about service transformation and gather feedback from staff.
