The Role of the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) and Caldicot Guardian (CG) in General Practice

Target Audience/Eligibility Criteria

This training is most suitable for those who are the nominated SIRO or Caldicott Guardian (CG) for their practice.

Training Aim

The aim of this training session is to help delegates understand the role of the SIRO and CG and to provide those undertaking those roles with the information to fulfill the responsibilities of these roles within General Practice. It will focus on the nature of information risks and how they impact GP Practices and will also cover the latest guidance to update those who are established SIROs and Caldicott Guardians

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Describe the need for information risk management, the recommended approach to it and the legal framework around it.
  • Explain the role and responsibility of the Caldicot Guardian, SIRO and Information Asset Owners in General Practice
  • Describe what is meant by an organisation’s information asset and how risks to them should be identified and managed
  • Articulate the key to successful information risk management
  • Interpret and apply the data protection and other relevant legislation
  • Describe how Public Interest Disclosures need to be dealt with
