Health Care Assistant (B2)

Summary of Qualification/Training:

Care Certificate – Anybody moving into a Health Care Assistant Role should complete the Care Certificate – please see the General Practice Learning & Development Portfolio for details of how to access this.

Health Care Assistant Fundamentals – Completion of the Health Care Assistant Fundamentals (2 day course plus competency sign off in the practice) would be beneficial.

Clinical Study Days – a range of clinical study sessions are available on a regular basis such as blood pressure monitoring and ECG. These can be accessed as required. Details are in the Portfolio.

Functional Skills – HCAs who are looking to develop their skills further and who do not already have a level 2 qualification in maths and English should consider undertaking a functional skills course as this will then enable them to access Nurse Associate and Registered Nurse programmes, again details are in the Portfolio.

Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care – this can be completed at level 2 or level 3.  Please see the ‘Apprenticeships’ page (which is in this section of the Practice Hub) for more information.  It is usually necessary for anybody undertaking the apprenticeship to work a minimum of 30 hours per week.  Some providers will allow those working less hours to complete an apprenticeship but it will take longer than 18 months.
