{"id":42,"date":"2016-03-18T14:03:26","date_gmt":"2016-03-18T14:03:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stockportccg.nhs.uk\/practicehub\/?page_id=42"},"modified":"2019-02-19T12:49:30","modified_gmt":"2019-02-19T12:49:30","slug":"expert-patient-progamme-epp","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.stockportpracticehub.co.uk\/practicehub\/local-services\/expert-patient-progamme-epp\/","title":{"rendered":"Expert Patient Progamme (EPP)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What is the Expert Patient Programme?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Expert Patients Programme is a <strong>FREE <\/strong>course run over 6 weeks for people living with long-term health conditions such as heart disease, arthritis, MS, Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression and anxiety.<\/p>\n<p>Each 2 \u00bd \u00a0hour session is delivered by two trained volunteer tutors who themselves live with long-term health conditions. The courses are run in various community venues across Stockport \u2013 just phone 0161 835 6689 for more information or to register for a course.<\/p>\n<p>The EPP course can help patients to learn new skills to manage your condition better and take more control from day to day.\u00a0 We look at:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>dealing with pain and tiredness<\/li>\n<li>coping with feelings of depression<\/li>\n<li>relaxation techniques and gentle exercise<\/li>\n<li>healthy eating<\/li>\n<li>communicating with family, friends and health professionals<\/li>\n<li>planning for the future<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How can it help patients?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By taking part in an EPP course, in a welcoming and friendly environment, attendees can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>learn new skills to enable them to manage their health condition<\/li>\n<li>develop more confidence in the daily management of their condition<\/li>\n<li>meet others who share similar experiences<\/li>\n<li>learn about developing more effective working and communication relationships with healthcare professionals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How has it helped other people?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>People who have taken part in an EPP course tell us it has helped them:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI refocussed my condition using the Expert Patients Programme, putting me in control so I became the manager not the victim.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt has given me the knowledge and awareness to take control\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI soon realised the benefits of attending such a course, we each had very different conditions to contend with but the common denominator was long-term.
