Summary of Qualification\/Training:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Care Certificate<\/span> – Anybody moving into a Health Care Assistant Role should complete the Care Certificate – please see the General Practice Learning & Development Portfolio for details of how to access this.<\/p>\n

Health Care Assistant Fundamentals<\/span> –\u00a0Completion of the Health Care Assistant Fundamentals (2 day course plus competency sign off in the practice) would be beneficial.<\/p>\n

Clinical Study Days<\/span> – a range of clinical study sessions are available on a regular basis such as blood pressure monitoring and ECG. These can be accessed as required. Details are in the Portfolio.<\/p>\n

Functional Skills<\/span> – HCAs who are looking to develop their skills further and who do not already have a level 2 qualification in maths and English should consider undertaking a functional skills course as this will then enable them to access Nurse Associate and Registered Nurse programmes, again details are in the Portfolio.<\/p>\n

Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care<\/span> – this can be completed at level 2 or level 3.\u00a0 Please see the ‘Apprenticeships’ page (which is in this section of the Practice Hub) for more information.\u00a0 It is usually necessary for anybody undertaking the apprenticeship to work a minimum of 30 hours per week.\u00a0 Some providers will allow those working less hours to complete an apprenticeship but it will take longer than 18 months.\u00a0 Please\u00a0click here for the\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>Frequently Asked Questions Document<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0 the Senior Health Care Worker Apprenticeship.<\/p>\n

There is currently an opportunity for backfill to be made available for one day per week for completion of the Level 3 Senior Health Care Worker Apprenticeship.
